Album Review: “Free Base” by E.T. /// UndergroundHipHopBLOG.com

E.T.’s sophomore LP, “FREE BASS” review:

An album solely comprised of one MC, and beats that compliment a particular lyrical style, E.T. is bringing the definition of independence in this release, FREE BASE.  Many Hip Hop artists these days take pride in not releasing a complete album for free, but E.T.’s dedication to Hip Hop fans makes his integrity for  very different.  FREE BASE is meant to be free, and most importantly meant to be heard.  With a smooth style flow, and production throughout the whole album, Hip Hop heads will have no problem getting hooked on songs like “99%ERS”, “MENAGE A TOIS”, & “FREE BASE.”

“Free Bass is an auditory journey through a mind of a man hooked on music. Music is a drug. Anyone who tells you otherwise is probably such a track junky the silence to ponder such things hasn’t whispered in their ears for years, which is a state I strive to be in everyday.” – E.T.

Album Review: “AWAKENING” by BLACK ROSES (GAVLYN x TOPDIME x DJ DUBPLATES) /// UndergroundHipHopBLOG.com

BLACKROSES EP COVER(2) (1)

LOS ANGELES, CA – With out a doubt, “AWAKENING” has one of the most distinct sounds rarely heard currently in Hip Hop.  Los Angeles MCs GAVLYN and TOPDIME alongside DJ DUBPLATES are BLACK ROSES, a trio meant to heard by real Hip Hop heads.  With a mixture of west coast sounds alongside a catalog of beats that compliment the lyrics, there is a style in the release for all types of listeners.  With production credits from EQ, DJ IZZY, STOMPBOXX, UGK, DROE JACKSON, THINK, SHAME, and of course DJ DUBPLATES, we can’t really find a stand out track since they are all bangers.  They recently released a video for “Wawaa” Prod. by EQ which definitely showcases a diversity of styles, also hitting the spanish Hip Hop heads.  Video link: youtu.be/uPOcHZH7Lpc

Album Review: “MEANT 4 MORE” by J.BLACK /// UndergroundHipHopBLOG.com

Front

Back

J BLACK: “Meant 4 More” – Album Review: The magic gets started early on “toast to the future” with the high energy production that blends well with J.Black’s delivery.  The reflective “Dreams” gives J.Black room to speak on things we have all dealt with while letting listeners into his personal world.  “Bounce” featuring Five is accurately titled getting my head nodding 16 seconds in.   J switches gears on his flow on “Read My Mind” with guest Geli adding texture to the hook.  The build up on “Do It Again” sets the tone for the stand out track on the album.  From punch lines to production “Meant 4 More” is a solid release and recommended to all Hip Hop heads.

Looking forward to his future releases here at UndergroundHipHopBLOG.com, and you should too.  Follow him at: @jdotblack and www.fb.com/jdotblack

Album Review: “DOPE CITY” by ONE WAY /// UndergroundHipHopBLOG.com

One Way Dope Cover

“Dope City” (2013) by ONE WAY (Central Pennsylvania) – Album Review

Starting your album off with a feature is never really a good idea, and nothing’s changed. Luckily the opening track “God’s Conversation” is strong enough to grab listeners early thanks to a solid guest spot from Joe Scudda and a soulful Muziqhedz track.  It’s hard not to notice that hypnotic Oddisee production with “Right Now”.   It isn’t until “First Million” where ONE WAY really find their feet.  The beats overall sound blends really well with both MC’s describing what it must feel like to have the finer things in life.  “My Way” is smooth enough to roll one up too with a good sonic background for ONE WAY to shine on.  “100 Tracks” has both emcee’s showcasing the finest lyricism on the 10 track project.  There’s room for growth but “DOPE CITY” proves there’s only one way, and that one way is up.  Looking forward with their progression in the industry.

2MEX & MAISELPH (California) – “Like Farther… Like Sun…” ALBUM REVIEW (2013) /// UndergroundHipHopBLOG.com

3412729969-1

ALBUM REVIEW: 2MEX and MAISELPH bring you along a musical journey that is sure to inspire dope cats and kittens from all musical backgrounds and walks of life. “Like Farther… Like Sun…” (2013) is a project put together by the legendary 2MEX (Visionaries/OMD) and a true up and comer MAISELPH, both Southern California natives on a mission preserving the integrity of Hip Hop.  The combination of wordplay and beat selection from producers like EXILE, INDJNOUS, SULLY, and many more, this release  takes us back to the rare collectives of real Hip Hop with purpose, to influence, and inspire.  It’s hard to choose 3 of our top tracks off the album, but we have to mention “MILES AWAY”, “JOANNA” & “MRS.TWO FACE ft GOOD GRADES”.  For all the Hip Hop heads out there looking for a complete mixture of 2 generations of styles in Hip Hop, we recommend “Like Farther… Like Sun…”!

Album Review: GREMLIN (Costa Mesa, CA) – “Gremland”///UndergroundHipHopBLOG.com

45570_369634006468806_658245171_n

This album “Gremland” by. GREMLIN (Costa Mesa, CA) definitely shocked us the first time we listened to it.  Dropping high quality crisp Hip Hop beats alongside his articulate rhyme style is what true Hip Hop is all about.  Never judge a book by its cover HONESTLY, visually he looks young yet GREMLIN’s music is far from ordinary.  Listening to this 12 track album from front to back you will appreciate the messages he is delivering to the masses.  Obviously GREMLIN has set a bar for artists that are fully independent and young at the same time.  Personally its hard to enjoy Hip Hop nowadays when we are constantly listening to BLOG submissions filtering through whats hot or not so when we ran into GREMLIN’s submission it was a breath of fresh air.

Its really hard to pinpoint the hardest tracks on this album, maybe to due to high level of substance and cohesiveness in each unique track which makes them all classics.  From real story telling with “Real Talk” & “Untitled“,  real dope beats & wordplay on “Welcome” & “Fe Fi Fo Fum“, to true heavy hitters like “Thats Why”  shows us GREMLIN is a true force in indie Hip Hop.  “Gremland” is definitely an album we would recommend to any fan out there who is looking for fresh new Hip Hop by a young artist truly on the rise.   This album is available for FREE download.

Album Review: BLIMP – “Cruising Altitude” (2013) /// UndergroundHipHopBLOG.com

3364559666-1

A rare find out of Arkansas, BLIMP is definitely holding it down for the South with some real integrity based Hip Hop.  With the usual trap sound coming out the south, it’s a sigh a relief finally getting a hold of some real Hip Hop out of that area of the nation.  Solely composed by BLIMP and West Coast’s own DJ FLIP FLOP of the influential CUNNINGLYNGUISTS, “CRUISING ALTITUDE” features DON TRIP, TRAE, Z-RO, the legend SCARFACE, as well as other nationally known artists ILLMACULATE, MISTAH F.A.B., and TERMANOLOGY, who we have interviewed in the past.  BLIMP’s network with these heavywight MCs showcases his Hip Hop maturity, along with his true independent grind and know how in making a complete album.  Independently funded and constructed, Blimp delivers a nice balanced mix of music ranging from laid back smoking songs to the social/political/economy issues of today.

UndergroundHipHopBLOG.com highlight tracks are: Do It For The AGotta Do ft. Termanology, & Keep Ya Head Up ft. Scarface.  If you are a real Hip Hop head, bump those 3 tracks, and you will realize that this project is a must BUY!
